The final responsibility of the protected dogs lies with us.
After dogs that needs protection is taken in, physical examination is given to them, and they will have a treatment at our expense.
As a principle, dogs can be adopted by homes after they go through a temporary training, and are spayed and neutered.
We might hesitate to give dogs for adoption in the case when we cannot have an agreement with a caretaker that all responsibility and rights about dogs remains with us afterwards.
We will refuse to give dogs to the protection under the direction of other organizations
Following are the obligation and rights that lies with us:
To improve physical condition of dogs under the temporary training
To own dogs and hand them over to homes
To maintain dogsf favorable health condition and guarantee them to have steady life in the future
We do not ask for the necessary expense of spay/neuter, vaccine, transportation, etc.)
Dogs are not to be protected collectively, but to be taken to homes one by one. ?
Dogs taken under the agreement should not be abandoned without any consultation with us.
After homes for dogs are decided, we would like to have periodic report from homes about dogsf condition.
The list of home names will not be open to public.
Following is protection plan agreed between ex-owner and us on October 11th, 2000.
With this plan, ex-event dogs are protected following the three steps of volunteer activity.
First Step: Protection in the shelter |
|
Here, full-time caretaker and volunteers spend their effort to take care of dogsf condition as much as possible.
Simple training for each dog can start if the number of volunteers will increase.
The main tasks here are cleaning shelters and facilities, washing dishes, giving water, and training.
Under the supervision of full-time caretaker, work can be done quite effectively.
Though work here is heavy, it is an important step for dogs to adapt to new environment at the second step.
We plan to have substantial data to make each dogfs profile, and assessment test of dogs by specialists.
| |
Second Step: Protection under the temporary home |
|
Each dog is individually protected in the place where they must adopt in the future such as general homes.
Dogs are trained to learn skills necessary to become home dogs such as to sit, wait, come, heel, and ???????
At the same time, physical examination, and spay/neuter surgery are given to them.
Support for dog food during the temporary care period is possible by volunteers.
Journal is kept by volunteer to record the progress in the training period.
Record will be successively placed on the web site.
This program is significant because it determines dogsf ability to successfully adapt as a home dog.
The responsibility of volunteers for the program is very heavy.
Applicants are selected by consulting with members after applications are sent to the Save the Ex-Event Dogs Project.
It is possible to apply for the permanent home at the same time.
In case of applying for both temporary and permanent home, the applicant have a priority in becoming a dog owner, but for the period of temporary training the primary focus should be to train dogs to be loved dogs in any home environment.
It might jeopardize dogsf ability and personality if training is given with an idle attitude that dogs will be given to other homes.

Protection under the Permanent Home |
|
Permanent homes are determined through the selection based on the application sent.
We require permanent caretaker to incur the cost of spay/neuter, vaccine, physical examination, and transportation (if expensed).
Training will be continued even after the temporary care.
Adoption is not based on the sympathy but permanent home will be given a right to live with a dog who possibly gives pleasure to your life.
To re-abandon dogs will result in hurting dogs who already had harsh enough experience.
Applying for permanent home should be carefully considered.
Volunteer for permanent home is an important role who must watch the dog till its end.
The more the home is willing to accept a dog as a family member, the more the experience would be hard and painful when the end comes to the dog.
Homes must expect to incur expense on filarial prevention, front line, dog food, additional equipments, and medical care.
Perhaps you are only paying for the priceless memories.
People who can appreciate and cherish such memories are allowed to have a right to know gdogfs magic.h
